Based off a webtoon of the same title, The Girl Who Sees Smells (Sensory Couple), which first starts three years prior to the two main leads, Choi Moo-Gak and Oh Cho-Rim, meeting each other. Choi Eun-Seol is the only witness who has survived the “Barcode Murders”, but fell into a coma shortly after her traumatic experience and lost her memories. Having woken up from the coma, she is able to gain the synesthetic ability to see smells but does not remember the fate of her parents or who she originally was. A retired detective who was solving the "Barcode Murders" adopts her and names her Oh Cho Rim. Choi Moo-Gak's sister, who is also named Choi Eun-Seol, was entangled in the "Barcode" murder case, resulting in not only her death, but also in the loss of most of Choi Moo-Gak's senses (analgesia).

Choi Moo-Gak's sole focus is to catch his sister’s killer. When confronting criminals, he pushes his body to the limit and ignores what harm he may be causing himself. While unearthing the cold case, Choi Moo-Gak crosses paths with Oh Cho-Rim. Although Choi Moo-Gak lost his senses and Oh Cho-Rim has had her senses heightened, they both use their abilities to find the murderer. (The original title of “Sensory Couple” was “Girl Who Sees Smells.”)

Usually, the show has episodes-long arcs of serial murderers to accompany the everyday crimes. Beyond the crime solving and action, it also focuses on the relationships that develop among the team, including Booth, and their families.

Throughout, they learn to navigate their daily-life and relationship problems as well as making friendships that will last a lifetime.
